Bernabe Gutierrez de Lara

He was born circa 1707. His father was Antonio Gutierrez de Lara, and his mother was Clara de Villarreal. In 1750, he lived in Revilla in household number 32. His household included 2 people. He died in 1770 in Revilla. He was 63 years old. Before the foundation of Nuevo Santander, he went to San Antonio de los Llanos with other residents of Monterrey to aid the settlers there against Indian depredations, and stayed there about two months. He came to the site of Revilla with 6 or 7 other residents 2-3 years before Escandon founded the town (~1747) to settle on lands owned by Vicente Guerra. He said that they moved to the colony because of the "harshness of the governors and tyranny of sales taxes" in Nuevo Leon, and that they were charged for the spinning work of women and for the smallest chickens they sold, and even servants had to pay taxes from their wages [1].
