The location of this ranch was probably on porción 53, which was granted to Juan Jose Gonzalez, who was married to Maria Clara Salinas, daughter of Bartola Peña (grantee of porción 61). By 1782, Juan Jose and his family lived in town, and the ranch was owned and operated by his father, Nicolas Gonzalez, who also owned porción 60 on the north side of the Rio Grande. Nicolas Gonzalez was a primitivo poblador and had been assigned porción 21 on the San Juan River, but he refused possession. He later bought porciónes 60, close to his brother-in-law Joaquin Garcia's grant, porciónes 62 and 64.
