Jose Maria Barrera was the son of Jose Angel Barrera and Maria Matiana Moreno.
He married Concepcion Peña.

In 1836, as the brother-in-law of the original grantee, he purchased one-half of Randado from Antonio Garcia. He had settled the tract at the same time. Half the tract was immediately conveyed to him.
