He was born circa 1764, and was baptized 28 Feb 1764 in Camargo. His father was Antonio Olivares, mulato, and his mother was Maria Cantu, mulata. At the baptism, Fr Manuel de Meza y Buenaño recorded his race as mulato, and his residence as Villa de Camargo. His padrino was Gregorio Valentin Farias, and his madrina was Maria Rosalia.
