Peña Station

Peña Station. Photo, c. 1907. Source: Hebbronville Chamber of Commerce, 50th Anniversary Jim Hogg County (Hebbronville, Texas, 1963).

The Peña family stands in front of their store around 1907. By this time, The Peña family had been landowners in the area for 100 years and across four generations, and Peña Station had been an important depot for more than 30 years. At left, sisters Faustina Peña (she is identified as Evangelina Peña, but given the apparent ages of the girls it might be an older sister, Faustina or Angelina), Josefa Peña, and Esther Peña stand with Maria Rivas. Behind the buggy, Gorgonia Rodriguez, servant of Margarita Peña, who was married to merchant and businessman Sixto E. Garcia. Next to Margarita is her sister Francisca Peña. Margarita and Francisca's father Francisco Peña sits in the buggy. In front of the buggy is Filiberto Peña, Francisco's son, and father of the girls at left. Behind the buggy are Chon Reyes and Francisco Arambula.
