He was born circa 1747. His father was Juan Jose Benavides, and his mother was Jacoba Garcia. His father owned Porción 77, Mier. In 1750, he lived in Camargo. The census recorded that he was the son of a settler, and 3 years old. His household had 4 people, and they did not receive government aid to move to the colony.
