Francisco Baez de Benavides Lopez

He was born circa 1594. His father was Gonzalo Baez de Benavides, and his mother was Martha Lopez. He died in 1666 in Monterrey. He was 72 years old. Of possible Portugese origin, though he was born in the Canary Islands. In New Spain, he discovered the mines of Salinas and of San Nicolas de Tolentino. In 1624, he held the post of Chief Constable of Monterrey. In 1626, he was alderman and a year later he held the position of councilman and procurator of Monterrey. In 1664, at 53 years of age, he was appointed mayor of Salinas by Governor Martin de Zavala.

Marriage

He married Isabel Martinez Guajardo, daughter of Juan Francisco Martinez Guajardo and Ursula Ines Catarina Navarro Rodriguez in 1625. He was 31 years old, and the bride was 19 years old. His wife died on 25 Jul 1693 in Monterrey. She was 87 years old.

Children

Ana Maria Baez de Benavides, born 1627. She married Juan Joseph de Treviño Ayala, son of Jose de Treviño and Leonor de Ayala Valverde. She died on 7 Jun 1677 in Agualeguas. She was 50 years old. Her husband died on 10 Apr 1694 in Monterrey. He was 91 years old.

Lucia de Benavides Guajardo, born 1640. She married Francisco de Treviño, son of Jacinto de Cobarrubias and Ana de Salazar. She had a relationship with _ Salinas. She died before 1679. She was 39 years old.

Antonia Baez de Benavides Martinez, born 1658. She married Diego Saenz, son of Diego Saenz Treviño and Clara del Valle on 9 Sep 1676 in Monterrey.

Maria Baez de Benavides Martinez, born 1660. She married Domingo Saenz del Valle, son of Diego Saenz Treviño and Clara del Valle on 2 May 1679 in Monterrey.
