In 1834 Jose Antonio Canales settled at La Zacatosa.

In 1836 Jose Antonio Canales was granted La Zacatosa by the State of Tamaulipas.

In 1838 Jose Antonio Canales temporarily abandoned La Zacatosa. He did not reside permanently on the tract after 1838 due to attacks by hostile Indians. See GLO abstract S-167

In 1852 Jose Antonio Canales applied for confirmation of La Zacatosa from the State of Texas.
