In 1805 Francisco Javier Vela was granted San Antonio Viejo by the King of Spain. He said that "“he had settled it in times of drought despite the dangers of barbaric Indians".

Jose Rafael Peña owned San Antonio Viejo by purchase from Francisco Javier Vela.

In 1852 Jesus Peña applied for confirmation of San Antonio Viejo from the State of Texas.
