In 1830 Luis Salinas was granted San Antonio Baluarte by the State of Tamaulipas. The tract was occupied from 1830 until 1836 when it was abandoned due to Indian depredations. The original grantee died in 1839.

In 1854 Manuel Salinas applied for confirmation of San Antonio Baluarte from the State of Texas.
