He was born circa 1740. His father was Francisco Lopez de Jaen, and his mother was Maria Agustina Longoria. His father owned land in Porción 12, Camargo. In 1750, he lived in Camargo. The census recorded that he was the son of a settler, español, and 10 years old. His household had 14 people, including 3 servants, and they received government aid to move to the colony.

In 1767, as the son of a primitivo poblador, he was granted Camargo 14 by the King of Spain. Manuel Lopez refused to take possession of this porcion, so it was assigned to Nuñez. The title was granted to the descendants of Miguel Lopez in 1849.
